INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, people have to compete with each others. In this globalization, especially in 2010 when Indonesia signs the ACFTA (ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement), people must work hard for their life. As the consequence of this agreement, people have to compete not only with Indonesian people, but also with people abroad. If they can’t compete with others, they will be left behind. They can’t struggle in this life and isolated from the society.
In this century, there are three things that need more of our concern. These three things have already grown so fast in a century. The three things are globalization, internet and acceleration. We can’t stop globalization. Our country becomes more and more open welcome to other country. This globalization forces us to get ways how we can survive in this system. Once upon a time, global means selling a product abroad. Then, global menas put an operation in many countries. Now, global means erasing a border between countries to others. The flows of humans, products or services are not only inside the country but also going abroad.
The second is internet. We can’t deny that internet grows very fast nowadays. In the past, internet is something strange for many people. Since computer had already replaced a typewritter, it also grows very fast. The technology and inovation never stop developing. Intenet gives everyone an access to information which is unlimited. Whoever, whereever and whenever, people can look for some information they want. Learning process is not limited in class again but now, it is more active and dynamics. You can learn whatever you want. You can learn whenever you want and you can learn whereever you are. Only in second, you can trip to many places. You also can get lots of knowledge and education.
The last is the acceleration. Acceleration here means technology or digitalization. Digitalization is erasing human thoughts and keeps them stay away from some job and replace it with some computer and network. Nowadays, many things were digitalized to make it easier. If you combine this three things (globalization, internet, and acceleration), you’ll realize that life is getting harder and harder. You have to prepare yourself to face this.
TIME MANAGEMENT IN BUSINESS WORLD
From this explanation, it’s very obvious about our life now. So, if you want to survive and become a success person in this world, you have to work very hard. There’s nothing free in this world. You have to use all your strength to get what you want. One of the key success factors is discipline. You have to make yourself discipline since you were child. Disclipine has a wide scope. Not only discipline in attitude, but also discipline in managing time. Time management is very important in someone’s life. If someone can manage time well, they will be a success person. They are able to use time effectively and wisely. Time is something that’s abstract. We can’t see what kind of things called “time”. We only can measure and feel it. We use watch, clock, to identify what time it is. Sometimes we don’t realize that the time is always running out. In our life, how many times that is useless because we didn’t use it well??? In business world nowadays, people also compete with time. Everyday, people have to use their time effectively to get some idea, to make innovation, to make a decission, especially in capital market.
Capital market is one of the real example in business world which shows that how important is time. If you see the trading in capital market, the manajer investee has to make a quick decision related with buying or selling some stock options. Changes are happened only in few second. The price can rise or down only in few second. You can be a millioner or bankcrupt only in second; it does depend on how fast you can make a good decision for your investation. This explanation gives us a good example that how important is time in our daily life.
TIME MANAGEMENT IN EDUCATION WORLD
Not only in world business, but time management is also important in education world. Time management is very important for everyone (including teachers, students, etc). Teachers should manage their time effectively so they can give all the materials for all of students. On the other hand, students also have to manage their time effectively so they can get all the knowledge which is transferred from their teachers.
In this part, we will discuss why time management is very important for students. As we know that students have a principal things to do. That is study and does their job. All they do have the same purpose, which is preparing them to face the competition in the real life (working life). Beside the daily acitivity, as a student, they also have to do the other things such as extracurricular (sports, arts, course, etc). And also they have to develop their ability to communicate and socialize with others. If we look all of their activities that are so many, time management is very important for them. In a day, they have to manage their time to study, to do the extracurricular, to socialize with others etc. They have to run their time wisely so all of the activities can be done.
As a student, you have to be smart in managing your time. The example is like this. You have to divide your time and use it properly. In the morning, you have to go to school. In the afternoon, you can use your time for extracurricular and socialize with others. When you get home, you can take a rest for a while, and then spend a time for your family. Then in the night, you do all your homework and prepare for tomorrow’s lessson. Many students failed especially in final exam because they can’t run their time effectively. For examples, students often study only if they have a test the next day. Sometimes, they cheat the others homework. In daily test, they often cheat too. And the result, when they have to face the final exam (UN or Ujian Nasional), they fail.
Not only the students, but this also happens to the teachers. In some school, many teachers can’t manage time effectively. Sometimes, they are too relaxed when they teach the students. But when it’s close to the final exam (UN), they try to catch the target. And the result, they can’t transfer all the knowledge to students and their students fail in their exam.
When we are at school, it’s the most suitable time to practise and make ourselves discipline. We make our attitude become discipline and manage our time effectively. A success person is someone who can apreciate time. Even just a second, it’s very precious for them to use it for a good thing. They won’t waste their time for something useless. Maybe it looks so difficult. But if you try to do that since you were at school, you will get use of it.
